This Penang trip wasnt take long time to plan
but the outcome was out of the expecting
everything we met, everything we did were way too good to be remembered...
for the whole life...
consider as a backpacking trip,
4 of us. Ray(which is me), Bra , SK and Kay,
with our backpacks on our shoulder,
we started our trip on 25/7/12 , 10pm,
the bus journey to penang take almost 7hours,
by the time we reach Penang, George Town, it was like 6 o clock in the morning.
when we reached there, we were like " now what?"
it was SIX o clock in the morning, the city was still asleep,
and we have no idea where we are going, what we need to do first,
no idea, no aim, no direction, nothing. i guess this is the spirit of backpacking.
at last we decided to have some simple meal at a mamak stall,
i couldnt remember what the mamak stall name,
it was located opposite of bayview hotel near Penang Upper Road.
photos of Lim Guan Yin and some others powerful persons in the country were hung on the wall
the stall played some relaxing indian song while we are feasting.
we stayed there about 30minute long.
we finished our food, and again, "now what?"
after a not-too-long-nor-short discussion,
we paid our bill and decided to stroll around this sleeping city.
we walk along some streets which names are still unknown to us.
finding for a street named "Love Lane" which was recommended by one of the foreign friend of Brandon, knows that there have alot of guest house which prices are reasonable.
after a distance on the foots, we found the street, the lovely street, the "Love Lane".
it was not so lovely when the time we reached there.
the guesthouse we looking for was closed.
so as the two located beside it.
and ah gua(she-male prostitute) are everywhere, we even saw one dancing in the middle of the road.
the guest house we are actually planning to stay was a guesthouse name Old Penang Guest House.
the exterior design of it is stated in the name, OLD. so it gives us an antique feel.
the windows were opened, and the reception counter was visible from the outside.
there was nobody.
besides Old Penang Guest House, it was another guest house caught our eyes. The Reggae Hostel
we decided to try on this one.
we rang the door bell of the guest house, nobody answer.
when i try to ring the 2nd time, Bra stopped me as he afraid of waking up peoples inside, so he is actually stopping the door bell to do what the door bell should do.
well, i stop ringing the door bell anyway.
SK did some research on Reggae Hostel online with his Iphone 4s
surprisingly, we found our that this hostel has a awesome rating by peoples.
the hostel was fully designed as dormitory style, a different capacity of the dorm rooms were provided. 4 persons dorm, 6persons dorm, 12persons dorm.
which mean that you probably had to stay with some others guys you not even know in the same room.
and the design of the dorm room was good as well.
it was like capsule, every capsule suit in a persons. and a room built atleast 4capsules, and the capsule facilitated with a curtain with it, so you have 100% private space for your staying duration over there.
the guest house also facilitated with bar, pool table, balcony and provides omelet as breakfast.
after sitting there waiting people to welcome us about 15mins.
we are so bored and we decided to explore the city first.
that wasnt a good idea as well.
we walk and walk, round and round, somehow we got back to the place where we have our breakfast and we were like what the fuck? ==
we gave up exploring the city and end up sitting besides the road.
we were so tired and we stroll back to Love Lane and hope the guest house was open.
and we did the steps alll over again.
walked to Love Lane, ring the door bell and wait people to welcome us.
Reggae Hostel, still no one in the reception counter,
Old Penang Hostel, the person was awaken
a indian guy, looked tired and sit behind the reception counter.
we are offered the price of RM140 for 2 singles room with extra mattress.
but our heart and mind was at Reggae Hostel.
a long consideration took place.
at last, we surrender to tiredness and checked in to Old Penang Hostel in order to get some rest.
man i was dissapointed at that moment.
here goes our adventure............
8am.
while Bra and Kay was actually resting,
SK came down to the lobby of the guest house to have some free breakfast provided by the guest house, nothing much, coffee/tea and breads. a toaster was ready there if you wish to get your breads toasted, also some jams. peanut butter, kaya and so on.
i was researching and marking some must-go places for our trip while he came down.
i ended up giving up research when a staff there told me this "you dont need any guide if you are walking around in George Town, because everything are around you, just walk and explore". same goes to life, maybe sometime we should slow our steps down and start exploring things happening around us.
so well, i gave everything wrote on the note a big cross and toast myself a peanut butter toast and went to SK.
